Some Sad News...

Some sad news to report today. Roscoe Lee Browne died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.

You may not recognize the name, but no doubt, you would recognize the voice. That gorgeous, refined baritone narrated the movie “Babe” and provided just the right touch to the Kingpin in 30 episodes of the FOX “Spider-Man” cartoon from 1995-1998.

Children of the 80s will recognize Browne as Dr. Barnabus Foster from the classic 1986 episode of “The Cosby Show,” “The Card Game,” in which Cliff and Dr. Foster beat Cliff’s dad and his friend at cards. The role won Browne an Emmy, and he later reprised it on a second episode of “Cosby” and four episodes of “A Different World.”

But how I will always remember Browne is as Rosemont, the enigmatic leader of the mysterious 13 on “Falcon Crest” in 1988. That storyline single-handedly ruined “Crest,” but Browne was fantastic as the villain that brought Richard Channing (David Selby) to his knees.

And I never forgot that voice because of it. He will be missed…
