Time to Check Out of “Outsider’s Inn”

It seemed like such a cute idea…

Put Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown and Carnie Wilson—who were so adorable in “Gone Country”—together in a crazy situation (in this case, running a bed and breakfast) and watch them go.

But unfortunately, the producers aren’t watching them go, they’re telling them where to go and what to do and what to say.

And in a “reality” show, that’s a show killer.

There have been several reality shows that have used staged situations to create comedy—“The Simple Life,” “The Two Coreys” (season one)—but “Inn” is so staged it’s embarrassing. The supporting players are clearly actors and not very good ones at that. And McCormick is overacting so badly it makes you long for the “acting” of Paris and Nicole. Carnie Wilson still manages to be charming, but it’s all so contrived, you barely notice.

One of the great things about McCormick and Brown on “Gone Country” is that their friendship happened spontaneously (and surprisingly, I might add). Obviously, the people behind “Inn” have forgotten that.

It’s time to check out of “Outsider’s Inn”…

“Outsider’s Inn” airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on CMT…
